60 Years of MAC

A short film commissioned by the Midlands Arts Centre (MAC) celebrating and reflecting on the life of the ground-breaking organisation. MAC started its life in the 60s with the aim of enabling all children and young people access to arts and culture in the post-industrial landscape of Birmingham. Nowadays, MAC provides arts for all, for every age and background, with the mission to make art an important part of people’s lives. 

Over the course of a year, Dan curated some of the many highlights of the last 60 years. Key contributors include Sir Tony Robinson, Joe Lycett, Vanley Burke, Ian Francis and Piali Ray OBE.

Personal stories, interviews and archive give insight into the ever-changing organisation, and what MAC means to participants, artists, performers, and those working behind-the-scenes, both past and present. 

One thing remains the same. MAC was formed on the fundamental belief that anyone can be an artist. Its lasting legacy is to support everyone who walks through its doors with a desire to grow creatively, from amateurs to professionals, at any stage of their lives.
